I get asked a lot about my morning routine, but I wanted to create this post to empower you to create your own. It’s not important that your routine is like mine or like Tony Robbins’ or the next best self-help guru…what matters is that yours sticks and works for YOU. Consistency is key.
With that being said, if your morning routine is hitting snooze 10 times and then waking up in panic and reaction mode, freaking out and doing everything for everyone else…that isn’t the answer either….but what is?
Here are the 3 things you MUST have in your morning routine:
- ME: You absolutely have to have time for yourself, and I don’t care how long it is. There isn’t a magic amount of time I want to give you, but if you don’t take the time to “fill up your tank” then try “driving your car.” You might get through part of the way – but chances are it won’t end up well. What do I personally do for me? I read the bible, I read a book or article, I write down my 3 gratitudes in my gratitude journal that my dad got me for Christmas and I put some essential oils on my chest and on my feet. PERSONALLY, I give myself anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours first thing in the morning JUST FOR ME. No emails, no social media – just Lunden.
- MOVEMENT: Move your body and generate energy! Get outside and walk around, do some yoga, dance to your favorite song, knock out a quick HIIT workout, do a dynamic warm-up…get your blood flowing! PERSONALLY, my movement in the morning is either a walk or a run outside. If it’s super cold (winters can be really cold here in Austria) then I do yoga for 15-30 minutes in my pajamas.
- MINDSET: What is your intention for the day? How do you want to show up into the world? How do you want to treat people? How do you want people to feel when they interact with you? Do you even think about any of this before taking off into the day? If not, you can’t really point the finger at others when things start going crazy. OWN YOUR DAY! PERSONALLY, I use Brendon Burchard’s High Performance Planner because it’s THE BOMB in my opinion. It helps me plan my day and my priorities and also asks a variety of morning mindset questions (as well as evening ones at the end of your day) to get me thinking: How can I bring my best self to the world today and share my gifts?
So what does your morning routine look like? Are you inspired to create your own? If you are constantly blaming people and situations for the trajectory of your day…use your morning routine to find a solution to how you will react BEFORE that happens. Once you realize life isn’t happening TO you – it’s your reaction and perception….your whole world will change.
