9 Ways to Use Lemon Essential Oil

Essential oils have been a really powerful tool in my life. I started using them regularly about 4 years ago and I cannot imagine my life without my oils. It’s really important to me that all of the products I use, from personal care to cleaning products, have quality, non-toxic ingredients that won’t harm my body and that’s why essential oils have been a powerful, natural solution in my home and in my life.

The 3 ways to use essential oils

There are 3 ways that you can use doTERRA essential oils. I only use doTERRA oils because I know they are high quality & pure!

  • Aromatically (smell or in a diffuser)
  • Topically (on the skin with a carrier oil)
  • Internally (drop in water or in a capsule)

Note: All doTERRA essential oils can be used aromatically & topically. If you want to take an oil internally, just be sure it says “Supplement Facts” or “For food flavouring” on the label. This is the indicator that there is a benefit to taking this oil internally.

Lemon oil, the oil we are talking about today is absolutely safe to use all 3 ways!

9 Ways to Use Lemon Essential Oil

1. Add a drop in your water

I add a drop of Lemon oil in my water every single morning (and oftentimes throughout the day). Lemon oil is very cleansing & purifying for the body and it helps aid in digestion. And just FYI, it does make you pee a lot more when you add lemon oil to your water.

2. Get rid of anything sticky or goopy

Just put a drop of lemon oil onto whatever is stuck and let it work its magic. When I first moved into my new apartment about 6 weeks ago, there were some little tile decorations stuck to the tile in the shower from the previous tenants. They were definitely not my style, so I just tried to pull them off. And underneath was this really thick and sticky tape that would have taken me years to peel off. I just added 1-2 drop of lemon on each of the small sticky areas and let it sit for like 10-15 minutes and that tape just slid right off!

3. Countertop cleaner

Fill up a glass spray bottle with water (distilled water preferred so it doesn’t get that funky water smell) and then add a couple drops of lemon and 2 Tbsp of white vinegar. Shake it up and you have your countertop cleaner! And what a refreshing smell when your whole kitchen and bathroom smell like lemon.

4. Purify & freshen the air

All of those artificial plug-in’s, sprays and scented candles can be really toxic for our bodies! I love putting Lemon oil in my diffuser with other citrus oils to a nice uplifting, energizing aroma that you can’t help but smile when you smell.

5. Wood cleaner

Add a few drops of lemon oil to olive oil and use it to shine up your wood furniture! It will keep your wood “hydrated” and prevent it from drying out and give an amazing shine and finish. I absolutely love using this cleaner on my wood desk. The smell of lemon and that shine is really uplifting.

6. Freshen up your avocado toast

Add a couple drops to your smashed up avocado before you spread it on your toast! Lemon is SO purifying for the body and that citrus flavor in the guacamole is so delicious.

7. Shine up old silverware or other metal tarnish

Put a few drops of lemon oil on a cotton ball and start polishing. The lemon oil really helps to rub away the tarnish to get your fav items shining brightly again.

8. DIY dish soap

All you need to do is add 10-15 drops of your lemon oil to your unscented dish soap. I personally use Castile Soap and the lemon oil and that’s all. But please make sure that you put it in a glass container because the lemon oil is really strong and over time it can break down the synthetic plastic container (another proof that lemon is always breaking down toxins).

9. Banana Lemon Nice Cream

Add 2 frozen bananas and 1-2 drops of lemon in your blender and blend! You might need to add a bit of almond milk to help with the consistency, but not too much. Get ready for a banana-lemon treat that is so refreshing & so delicious it won’t feel like you’re eating something healthy. I like to top mine with blueberries and some chia seeds as well.
