Life is making choices. Think about it: every choice you have ever made has brought you to where you are right now. We have all made choices we wish we hadn’t, and we’ve all wondered if things would be different if we’d made different choices.
I heard a really awesome quote from an author and speaker I like, Trent Shelton, that goes like this: “What would your life be like if your perspective and perception was your superpower instead of your prison?”
One choice that I try to make every day is to live a life of positivity. Why? Because I believe that a positive mindset influences other choices I make.
Committing to Positivity
I fully believe that positivity isn’t a feeling — it’s a commitment. That’s because I know the alternative is negativity — negative thoughts, feeling like everyone is out to get me, and believing the world is against me.
A positive outlook has been my weapon against these things. It allows me to take ownership of my feelings, and that’s where the real magic is.
Even in 2020, when the entire world was thrown for a loop, I was committed to staying positive. I felt the ramifications of focusing on the negative and the fear of what we were all going through. That’s when I started being more intentional about choosing positivity. It doesn’t always come naturally, but the more you do it, the more of a habit it becomes.
As you might have learned on my last episode, I ended up moving back to the United States in the middle of the pandemic without really planning to beforehand. It just kind of happened. That was a huge transition for me, but life is making choices, and here I am.
Creating Your Own Reality
Now, this isn’t to say that I’m always feeling motivated or happy. But I am committed to finding the positive side of things. I’m committed to seeing the benefits in every situation.
I get to choose the reality I want every day. I’ve decided I want a positive, motivating, inspiring environment, and I create this environment through my own thoughts and perceptions.
I also take care to consider the people around me. Other people can influence our thoughts and feelings. Energy is contagious, and when you surround yourself with negative people, you are more likely to absorb their feelings and manifest them as your own. And while we can’t always change the people around us, we can choose how we respond to them.
Life is making choices. So how can you CHOOSE positivity every day?
- Make a list of things you’re grateful for.
- Take stock of the good people around you.
- Think about the things you were able to accomplish before bed.
- Have empathy for others.
- Forgive others.
- Try to leave people and places better than you found them.
